Kevin and Rose's Wedding

On Friday night my cousin Kevin married wonderful Rose. The wedding was fantastic. We had so much fun!

To see my favorite pictures, click here.

I could spend pages talking about it - everyone went over my parents house on Sunday to discuss the details (except Kevin and Rose, of course). However, these are the things that stick out in my mind: Rose looked beautiful, my cousins Colleen and Caitlin both looked quite sexy themselves, Kevin and Rose seemed so happy, Kelly hit it off with their lawyer friend from college, Ian (she's out with him right now for New Year's Eve/his b-day and their second date already since Friday!), poor Erin sat at the table the whole time since she is 37 weeks pregnant (and I know just what that feels like), Jimmy and Katie G. were adorable dancing together, and Jamie ended the evening by rapping for the many guests (reminiscent of our wedding) and we partied late night at Houlihan's before we all stayed over the hotel. Ryan and Courtney stayed over our house with Brenna.

It was a wonderful time and definitely the highlight of our Christmas break! Congratulations Kevin and Rose!

Christmas Recap (in words)

Brenna's first Christmas was a success, although I can't say I'll remember much of it.

Here are some highlights:

  • Brenna did cut her first tooth on Christmas Eve (finally)! I attribute this to 50% of her miserableness on the 23rd. She really took the song, "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth..." to heart.

  • We went to church with Grandma, Pop, Danny, Matt and Kevin. Jamie and I took turns taking Brenna to the back about halfway through when she decided the place needed a little more noise.

  • I was very scared Brenna would be too sick to enjoy Christmas. She still had a lingering, terrible cough and some eye crust, but she wasn't too sick to have fun. In fact, she LOVED opening her presents, and she got a ton!

  • I was the one that was too sick to enjoy Christmas. I talked to my mom on the phone on Christmas Eve, and she told me that poor little Maura was sick all day long at my sister's in laws. I felt so bad for her - what awful timing for a child on Christmas! And then I proceeded to throw up all night long at my in laws. Jamie emptied/sanitized the trash can at least 5 times throughout the night. I told him he was a great mom. After that, I was just dry heaving, but I didn't sleep for one minute. By the time Christmas morning rolled around, I got up to exchange presents, but I was delirious. We were all very fortunate, and everyone was very generous. I wish I had more life in me to enjoy it all. I feel bad that I was such a dull, dumb dud on Christmas morning, especially since it was Brenna's first. It was something I had looked forward to for so long. I wish I could do it all over!

  • We left Scranton at 11:00 a.m. and drove home. We arrived at my parents house at 2:00 p.m., where exchanged more presents. My Aunt Mare's family decided not to come because our house was obviously a germ fest and their oldest son, Kevin, is getting married tomorrow, so they didn't want to chance it! Smart choice! Maura was feeling much better, but Rob was sick, and I was still delirious. I had chills. (My mom thinks I had the flu, she said I was talking crazy to her at one point when she came to talk to me, which I don't remember.) So, after presents - again, we are very fortunate - I went up to my old bedroom, and I slept all day long, leaving Brenna with Jamie and my parents. I came down for dinner, but I couldn't eat anything more than a roll.

  • Maura decided she would be my nurse. She kept coming in to check on me, and she was very concerned, saying things like: "You okay, Aunt Meghan?" "Aunt Meghan, you feel all safe?" "Aunt Meghan, I put water here if you need it. It's right HERE." She kept bringing me her new toys to comfort me! "Aunt Meghan, just jingle your bell, it will make you feel better." And, she would tell Jamie and anyone else who came to check on me to leave! She is soooooooooooo funny.

  • Yesterday, December 26th, Brenna played happily with all her toys, and I felt much better. Jamie had to work and I just thank God I could take care of her by myself. I had to ask my sister and my mother-in-law to clarify who gave us certain presents as we went through them because I honestly couldn't remember all of the day before!

  • Today I woke up to Brenna laughing. I went in her room and she was standing there, like, "Hi, Mom. Were you up? I was. I was just waiting for whenever you got up." She laughed and laughed. Jamie had off today, and I let him sleep in a little because he had been doing so much with me out of commission, so I took her downstairs and we played with her toys again. She pulled herself to standing on her Leapfrog table and new Little Tikes Activity Walker (from Grandma and Pop) like it was no trouble in the world; as if she had always done it so effortlessly.

  • Jamie installed Brenna's convertible car seat today, and we took her out to Panera, Old Navy, Costco and Lowes. While we were in the car in Lowes parking lot, Brenna's antibiotic decided to leave it's nasty side effect, and she had a major blowout running all over her clothes, down her legs, on MY sneakers, etc. Jamie and I were cracking up and trying to figure out how to handle the situation. We stripped her, which she thought was awesome, and she laughed hysterically, thrilled to be naked in Lowes parking lot! Our Brenna is back... and our Brenna is an exhibitionist.

  • One of my most favorite milestones took place tonight. I was folding laundry and put Brenna in her crib to keep her out of the way for a second, and she immediately popped back up. I laughed at how quickly she can now do that, and I said, "Hi!" and I waved at her. She smiled and waved back at me. I thought it was a fluke. So I did it again, and SHE DID IT AGAIN!!! I called Jamie in to confirm it was real, and together we did it about six more times, each time with Brenna responding to our waving by smiling and waving enthusiastically back at us!

It is a good thing that there are 12 days of Christmas because Christmas Day would have probably left me a little disappointed since I was too sick to take it all in, but a day like today, and a gift like Brenna waving hello to us makes up for it!

It's CHRISTMAS EVE!!!!

Well, Brenna is still sick, but she slept for 10 hours and is in a much better mood. The cough seems better, so we're hoping that our plans can all remain the same as we head off to Grandma and Pop's house later on today and to Gram and Po's tomorrow.

We celebrated our own little family Christmas this morning, and even with her sick eyes, she did get in the spirit of it. It was fun.

I lucked out, too. I've been wanting a Chi (good hair straightener) for years! And I hope the Nikon book can help me with my camera before I take a photography class, which I don't think is offered again until May. Jamie did very good...

I won't be posting until after Christmas, so I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas! Even though I will see most of the people reading this. But, if I won't see you, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy December 23rd

Brenna really wanted to look like this on the day she turned 7 months - all excited for Christmas...

But, I'm not going to lie; she really looked like this all day long...

It was her sickest day to date. Worse than the RSV she had last month. She cried and moaned and coughed all day long. My poor baby.

We even had to miss the party at Gram and Po's house.

On top of everything, Brenna's bottom gum was bleeding at one point today, so Jamie and I are really hoping for two front teeth and a happier/healthier baby for Christmas!

Sick Again

I can't post any pictures tonight because I'm headed off to bed to get rested up for what looks like a long night.

I went to a very fun Christmas party tonight (Jackie and Missy's) while my parents babysat. Jamie started off at the party with me, and then went to DJ. When I came home, Brenna was moaning. My mom said she had been doing that for the past 2.5 hours since she went down, and she felt really bad for her.

I opened the door to check on her, and she was standing in the crib, looking at me with one of her eyes glued shut with crust, poor thing. I picked her up, and she cried, so I went to change her diaper. It was not a pretty sight. The doctor warned that the contents of the diaper would be a side effect from the antibiotic. I gave her tylenol and held her close, as she went into a coughing fit, and then she vomited all over me.

Brenna has always been a baby who has spit up (a little or a lot), but this was the first time she really vomited. After I thought she got it all up, I stripped her, changed my clothes and gave her another bath, and then I held her for a long time until she finally passed out again.

I just laid her back in her crib (12:30 a.m.), but I think she will be up throughout the night, so I'm headed off to get some sleep when I can!

Goodnight!

Happy December 21st (no good day)

On Wednesday when I went to pick Brenna up from daycare, she was playing with a baby boy a month older than her. They were face to face, and he took her toy out of her hands and put it right in his mouth. I teased her about giving it up so easily. And then I looked at his face. There was a massive amount of disgusting puss oozing from this kid's eyes!

I quickly grabbed Brenna away, and I asked her teacher what the deal with the other baby's eyes was. Ms. K. sighed and said, "I know. His parents say it's not contagious. They took him to the doctor and everything," and she made an eye roll as if she didn't believe them. I like Brenna's teachers, and I know their hand were tied in the situation.

I took Brenna home, but I couldn't get it out of my head (it was a lot of puss!), so I told Jamie about it. He encouraged me to call the daycare and speak to the director, so I did.

She assured me that this baby had a clogged tear duct and nothing more. I asked her to please send this child home if it was anything more, and she promised she would, and she would let me know if something contagious was in the room. So, it put my mind at ease.

Until Brenna woke up today with both of her eyes crusted over. She has never had an eye problem once in her short life, and all of a sudden she does. What a coincidence! Jamie was FURIOUS, and he was cursing.

She was in fine spirits though, and obviously this daycare doesn't consider eye crust to be all that sick (though they call me to pick her up when she poops too many times), so we just wiped the crust away and dressed our little elf. She was all set for her last day before our long break!

I got to daycare, and I nonchalantly pointed out Brenna's crusty eyes, and one of her teachers got mad about the whole situation. She was on my side, and felt that the boy that infected the room should be sent home, so she must have said something to the director while I brought in the teachers' Christmas gifts.

After hearing my concern, the director came to tell me that she thought it was best I take Brenna home until I could get her to a doctor! While this little puss oozing boy was permitted to stay and play! While I agreed that maybe Brenna should not be there, I was livid. I couldn't believe that he could stay after getting my daughter sick, but she could not.

And the director looked at me in the face and said, "That boy is not contagious. She probably got it from an older child from one of the other rooms." And I didn't even think to say, "WTF is she doing playing with an older child here anyway? We pay for her to be cared for in the INFANT room." The point is, she got it here. From Puss Face Magee or some other dirty baby, she's not alone in this.

I don't even remember what I said. But, I know I said something about how I didn't believe that for a second and how my husband wanted to pull her out anyway (from issues like them often breaking the law with their staff/student ratio, and refusing to let us use a half-tution vacation week - we get 3 a year- when she was out sick one week from Wed. - Wed., it has to be Mon.- Fri.) and this is just going to make him more mad, and I wished the teachers a Merry Christmas and slammed the door in the director's face.

So, I think we need to find a new daycare, if not now, then very soon...

I then proceeded to have one of the hardest work days of my life, lugging a miserable elf around with me on 8 different car trips as I delivered presents for needy children in our area. After that was all done, Brenna came to a high school pep rally with me, which she liked much more.

Sitting outside the gym.

Ready for the cheerleaders.

I took Brenna back to my office and to the doctors in the late afternoon. She was put on an antibiotic, and it turns out she also has ear infections in both ears! Poor girl. I feel guilty for not noticing how long she might have had that for!

I hope she feels better this week for Christmas. I'm glad I took her to the doctor, but I'm still very angry with our daycare and will spend our week off looking for other options.

We had a good night, though, and she even looked cute and pathetic with her sick eyes before bed!

Jamie and I then had a present wrapping party, and let me tell you, it was wild. I am so grateful for the next 10 days of vacation! Goodnight!

Happy December 20th

Last night we had Maura's annual Christmas Pageant! Because Maura goes to a Christian daycare, they have license to make a big deal out of the holiday, which I appreciated!

Here are some pictures of the night:

Santa Claus was at the after-party, but Brenna was very skeptical! She met the real deal at the mall, and she didn't seem to trust this thinner, low-quality stand-in, without the gangsta SANTA belt on...

Aunt Kelly, can you vouch for this guy?

That does it! The beard is a fake. IMPOSTER!

I can't believe these two parents of the year just tried to pass that guy off as Santa Claus. It might be my first Christmas, but I wasn't born yesterday.

I don't know if I can trust Aunt Kelly again either. She just flies in from Ohio for her break and simply refers to any Tom, Dick or Harry as Santa Claus.

But, my mom's the real gullible moron. She sat on her own boss' lap earlier in the day, and she thought he was the real Santa! I have a long road ahead of me...

Happy December 19th

At the end of each weekday, Brenna and I wait in anticipation...

to get home to open our daily Chrismas cards!

Today Brenna scored with two checks and a personalized Christmas ornament mixed in with the cards. It's understandable that she wanted to make sure nothing else got stuck in the envelopes.

We also LOVE the photos of children that we get.

Click here to view our friends and family's cards so far!
I will update this link as they come in :)

Brenna realized some just have words - but nice words - and that's just as good!

Warm wishes, to you all, too!
Thanks, loved ones!
