when adults watch cartoons

It's 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. And like most weekend mornings, Jamie and I turn on the Disney Channel, stick Brenna in between us with a sippy cup of milk and hope that Mickey, Pooh and the other characters keep her entertained enough to let us sleep as long as possible. Sometimes this works until 8. Sometimes, when we are lucky, it lets us lay there until 9.

Today, at 8:20, while watching her shows, she said she had to go "paa-eee." I took her to the bathroom and she sat there and did nothing. So, on my way to get her a new diaper out of her room, she took off naked, and ran behind the chair in her room and peed on the carpet.

Lovely. I changed her and cleaned the carpet, I wasn't tired anymore, and Jamie and I watched Handy Manny with her.

If you've never seen Handy Manny, you really must. It's actually pretty cute. Manny Garcia is a bilingual Hispanic cartoon character that travels around his town fixing things with his talking tools. Brenna loves it.

Jamie, however, had me in hysterics while watching it this morning.

Manny got a call from Coach Johnson to come fix the basketball hoop. Coach Johnson was a black man, so Jamie said, "Of course they make the basketball coach black, and they are sending the Hispanic to do the manual labor? Could we hit any more stereotypes?" And then his accents began....

Irish accent: "Hi, Manny? This is Paddy O'Hara. I need you to come over to the bar to fix my beer tap."

Indian accent: "This is Sudahkar Prandutti. My curry machine is broken and I have to make dinner for my wife and 18 children. Can you help?"

Jewish accent: "This is Aaron Rosenstein. Hurry over! My money counting machine doesn't seem to be working!"

and it continued to get worse.... he wouldn't stop...

Coach Johnson again: "Manny! When you're done with that basketball hoop, do you have a skeleton key to undo these handcuffs? Cause they mighty tight."

Chinese accent: "Kim Pon Won here, Manny! Can you help me? I'm so tired of mass producing everything!"

and finally...

Hispanic accent: "Manny! Manny! It's your brother, Manuelo. I, ugh, have a huge problem. There's a hole in the door that I'm using to float across the ocean! Could you and your tools come patch it for me so I can make it to Miami by manana?"

If you could hear his accents, you'd laugh with me, I promise. Poor Handy Manny.

If anyone out there does watch it, tell me if you agree with me: Manny wants Kelly, the owner of the hardware store, so obviously, doesn't he? The sexual tension between them is ridiculous. They really need to get a room already.

Other than the sexual and racial undertones, it's a fabulous Disney show for the not-quite-potty-trained set!

halfway to 40!

I wish the title meant I was soon turning 20 years old rather than 30, but I'm actually halfway to two number 40's:

1. I am halfway to the full 40 weeks pregnant (and since I am having this baby at 39 weeks at the latest via repeat c-section, I won't have to wait quite that long).

2. At the rate I'm going, it's looking like I'll hit another 40 lb. weight gain. That's what I gained when I was pregnant with Brenna, and it took me 6.5 long months to lose it http://meghanjamieandbrenna.blogspot.com/2007/12/goal-accomplished.html).

I said I was not going to gain as much this time, and yet I ate Chick-Fil-A for lunch and Panera for dinner, and sit on my butt and watch tv and let my daughter use the treadmill instead of me: http://www.vimeo.com/2783588

Oh, well, the treadmill is there for me someday. It's just waiting along with my Core Secrets workout dvd's that just kept coming in the mail (and they kept charging me for because I would never remember to cancel the subscription). And maybe I will eventually stop eating pudding and Cool Whip while watching The Biggest Loser.

I'm back!

People are pretending to like me and my stupid blog. All of a sudden, I have messages saying, "Why won't you update your blog?" and "What's with the blog?" I had three today actually!

Hmmm.... let's see what's new:

1. I am pregnant. And I have neglected my blog for so long that next week I will be halfway done the pregnancy already! And, it's probably another girl - we had our big ultrasound yesterday! That's some pretty big news. I can feel her moving all around, which is wonderful. We are very blessed. Oh, and I have all these pregnant friends, too - Andrea, Dannielle, Jen, Kirsten, Carrie (those two are due the same week as me), and it's so fun to go through it with others this time!

2. We had a fantastic Christmas. I got way too much from my awesome husband. But then, I'm fat again, and the fatter you are, the more presents you should get. I convinced him he should spend by the pound, and I have my belly to thank for my iPhone, Memory Foam (for the top of our bed), large screen computer monitor (for my pictures), etc. Really, we were too spoiled this year and I never again will get so many presents. My parents got us Brenna's big girl furniture, and Jamie's parents got me a hand-held video camera (I will post videos here soon, I'm sure). The family being together during the time off was so nice, and I was so sad to return to work yesterday.

3. Brenna is as amazing as usual. She is such a big girl at 19 months. For example, she uses the potty now! She grabs her little butt and says, "I paa-eee (potty)," when she has to go, and then proceeds to sit on her seat for 10 minutes to squeeze out 2 drops. But, she's so proud. And, she is talking A LOT. She loves putting money in her piggy bank, and will yell, "Money! Money! Coys (coins)! Paper (dollars)!" to get some. It's her and Jamie's special thing together. Unfortunately, she also tries to slap Jamie in the face often, so we're working on gentle activities for the two of them.

4. We are going to Florida in two weeks to visit Jamie's grandfather. We are even going to do Disney for a day for both me (and my 30th birthday) and for Brenna. I hope she loves it considering she sleeps with Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Pluto every single night. She tried to take all of them to school with her today, and she yells out, "Toodles!" which is what Mickey says on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She is a riot. I wish I could think of all the funny things she does, but the baby is pressing on my bladder and I have to go paa-eee myself.

I think I might start blogging again. Even though my photography business, real job, toddler and fetus have kept me busy, I really miss it!
