money, money, money

We got our Economic Stimulus Check today - 1,500 big ones. I had great plans for that check.

But, of course, we just got quoted for our air conditioner/heat pump replacement coil: $1,530.

Well, that's just freaking convienent, isn't it?!

Screw my air conditioner. The stupid thing cost us $1,500 last spring, too. (No one helped us at all last year, right Dad, wink, wink?) I was in tears, on the verge of having a mini-nervous breakdown, as I was about to go in to the hospital to have Brenna on unpaid maternity leave (meaning we were going to be broke), and the compressor on our air conditioner broke during the first heat wave of the year.

For Brenna's first few days of life, we all slept in the living room, with the ceiling fan on, box fans pointed at us from all directions, and the sliding glass door open until the compressor came in. My mom said that Brenna probably thought she was born in Mexico.

So, our goal is that her first birthday party will not be that hot again. Though if I have to get an entirely new central air system by her second birthday, there will be no more parties until she gets married, and she can actually go to Mexico for that.

May 26, 2007, our new baby wonders if she is, in fact, a Mexican baby...
